Bring out the Bubbly

Posted on Sep 01, 2017 in Fall Wines , 45 Central Wine Bar , September-October 2017

The dog days of summer are here and gone. After a steamy summer, what could be better than a retreat back into cooler temps, in the air and in yummy vinos? The best way to welcome fall is to cheer with a fizzy treat. And when it comes to bubbles, there are many options.

As with most wines, titles change depending on where the grapes are sourced. Sparkling wines are no different. Champagne must be sourced from grapes found in the Champagne region of France. Cava is the Spanish version of sparkling wine. And Prosecco is an Italian sparkling wine, while the title “sparkling wine” is the general answer to bubbles without a region to name them.

Feeling blue that summer is gone? Try a spicy and dry Spanish Cava from Penedés. It has just enough of a kick to really represent the loamy goodness of Spanish soil that shows up in the wine, while the warm fruit peels back to give you a little taste of Mediterranean sunshine. A perfect choice to stretch summer out for just one more glass.

Though if you want to celebrate the return of school days, leaves turning and scarves, celebrate with a classic Champagne from France. Characteristic of most French wines, you’ll likely find a crisp, mineral finish and notes of ripe white peach in a Vueve Clicquot. Or if you feel like splurging, a delightful Dom Perignon with notes of earth and lemon can fully captivate your senses.

Are you simply a fan of change and movement, and want a good-time grape to set the tone for the coming autumn season? Sourced from Glera grapes, Prosecco is your fizzy friend. Light, textured and occasionally blooming with a touch of sweetness, we recommend kicking up your feet and cozying up to a glass of Zardetto Prosecco.

If you’d like to keep it simple and sample a house favorite at 45 Central Square Wine Bar, try a traditional Francois Montand Blanc Brut. Or if you crave the festive effervescence of pink fizz twinkling through your champagne flute, sample the Brut Rosé by the same vintner. Of course when it comes to bubbles, you don’t need an official reason, but we’ll take one … So, raise your glass of sparkling wine, toast the warm summer fading into the fabulous fall season and be merry.

Cheers!
