About Seaside, Florida

SEASIDE®, built on 80 acres along Florida’s Gulf Coast on Scenic Highway 30A, is acclaimed worldwide as the founding example of New Urbanism, a movement that reimagined American town planning around walkability, human-scale architecture, and genuine community. Founded in 1981 by Robert and Daryl Rose Davis and master-planned by Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, Seaside demonstrated that a town could be designed for people rather than cars: front porches instead of front lawns, footpaths instead of thoroughfares, and a town center within a five-minute walk of every home.

More than four decades later, Seaside remains a case study in architectural schools around the world and a destination for design professionals, urban planners, and students of placemaking. Its influence can be seen in traditional neighborhood developments across the country, and its streets appear in “The Truman Show,” which was filmed here in 1997.
