Registration is open for Seaside’s Halloweener Derby & Costume Contest
These dogs are scary fast! Join us in Seaside, Florida, for our annual Halloweener Derby and Costume Contest on Saturday, October 29. Enjoy delightful dogs racing, sniffing, and prancing in costume. Sign up your four-legged friends today! While the derby is open to Dachshunds only, the Costume Contest is open to all dog breeds! Register Here!
Check-in and registration begin at 9:15 a.m., with the first races kicking off at 10:00 a.m. The costume contest (open to all breeds) follows the championship race.
The original idea for the race came from locals Blair and Anita Powell, with support from Erica Pierce, general manager of The SEASIDE Style®, and the store staff. When the Powells moved away, the event lived on with support from the Seaside Merchants. It is fair to say that no one could predict how popular it would become.
The event has grown over the years, from a dozen dachshunds in the first couple of years to a record 44 registered last year. Folks used to stumble upon the event. Now people make plans to be in Seaside that weekend just to see these hyper canines compete. The costume contest was comprised of some Amazon-bought hotdog costumes. Now you will witness some of the most elaborate doggy get-ups.
The SEASIDE Style® will be set up as usual with their retail tent selling branded event shirts and doggy gear for all the dog lovers. Do not hesitate to buy one, as they sell out quickly. The event will again benefit H.E.A.R.T. Animal Rescue, a non-profit organization dedicated to caring for homeless pets in our area.
