What to expect at The REP Theatre this summer
On Monday evenings, the sounds of medieval trumpets can be heard throughout downtown Seaside, signaling that The REP Theatre is about to perform a mythical tale born of legend. Set in the infamous kingdom of Camelot, four of The REP’s professional actors bring their beloved characters to life in “The Tales of King Arthur.”
Mesmerized families watch while camped out in their chairs and blankets across the amphitheater lawn as fabled characters King Arthur, Guinevere, Sir Lancelot, and magical Merlin take audiences on a daring adventure. REP actors present an unforgettable theatrical experience filled with slapstick comedy that families will be reminiscing about for years to come.
On those magical summer evenings, applause echoes throughout the amphitheater as the actors take their curtain call. Once the show is done and the set is struck, you can see the lasting impact the performance has left on those in attendance, from children reenacting their favorite scenes to the smiles on their parents’ faces.
The theatrical experience that plays a vital role in the Seaside lifestyle doesn’t stop there. Along the tree-lined path at the top of the Seaside Amphitheater, imaginations soar as The REP’s summer entertainment takes flight.
Reminiscent of the street performance art found in cultural epicenters around the globe, The REP takes on its own style of pop up theater in the form of Stories by the Sea on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. In these unique performances, the craft of storytelling shines through as two REP actors expertly work together to create an interactive and completely improvised story with the help of audience suggestions. These storytelling sessions are a perfect way for children to discover a love for the arts.
July Fourth marks the height of the summer season and a time for celebration, and for The REP Theatre, it means the return of the high-energy performance of “The Complete History of America (abridged).” This hilarious production features two of The REP’s professional actors dressed head to toe in red, white, and blue as they present 600 years of American history in just 1200 seconds. With a never-ending supply of props and costumes, the actors transform from one character to the next as they take audiences on a wild ride through a whirlwind of history. It is the perfect way to get into the spirit of the holiday and showcases the essential role The REP Theatre plays here.
