Janie Henderson
The Seaside Institute announces Janie Henderson as the new director of operations.
Henderson relocated from Atlanta in 2016 to serve as the operations manager of the Seaside Institute. Prior to the move, Henderson worked in nonprofit and event management for more than seven years, and earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Kennesaw State University.
Henderson will be responsible for the overall management of day-to-day operations, membership, programming, fundraising and community relations for the institute. Focusing on the four mission pillars of the organization — community engagement, the arts, education and innovation, Henderson will be developing new programs to better serve the community. In addition, she will be placing greater emphasis on the importance of the institute’s member and volunteer network.
The Seaside Institute is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to supporting the communities of 30A through civic engagement, the arts, education and innovation. Founded by the co-founders of Seaside, Robert and Daryl Davis, the Seaside Institute aims to make our towns better through the principles of New Urbanism.
Current Seaside Institute initiatives, such as 30A Mobility, 30A Sustainability and Aging With Grace, will remain a priority of the organization. In addition, the institute is looking to expand its efforts and to provide a stronger presence throughout Walton County, and beyond.
“I look forward to serving and working alongside the people who help make Seaside the wonderful community that it is,” says Henderson. “I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together!”

Gearing up for an exciting new season
As the crowds begin to dwindle, Seaside takes a collective deep breath and begins to recover from another busy summer. The sidewalks are less congested and the lines at the coffee shop are shorter. But don’t get too comfortable, the Seaside Institute plans to keep your calendar full for the rest of the year. Here is a preview of what to expect:
Calling all Florida architects, designers and New Urbanists. The Florida chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU), have joined forces with the Seaside Institute for a special networking event. On Oct. 20, please join us for an educational session, followed by a networking reception at the Academic Village courtyard. This is a great opportunity to learn something new and to mingle with other local professionals. We have special pricing for our members on our website, seasideinstitute.org.
In November, we will be hosting the annual Seaside Strings chamber music festival. The event provides educational outreach programs and concerts. This year, our festival is coinciding with the Seeing Red Wine Festival. Between wine festival events, stop by to enjoy one of our free concerts, which will lead up to the grand finale concert on Sunday. We will be hosting a Seaside Strings Fundraising Concert on Wednesday, Sept. 20. Tickets are $25 and all proceeds will go toward our educational outreach portion of the festival. Festival information and tickets are available on our website, seasideinstitute.org/SeasideStrings.
With five pioneer architects receiving the award, the annual Seaside Prize Weekend in February 2018 will truly be a Seaside star-studded event. Join Ernesto Buch, Walter Chatham, Robert Orr, Alexander Gorlin and Deborah Berke at what is expected to be an unprecedented Seaside Prize weekend. More information can be found on our website, seasideinstitute.org/SeasidePrize.
