Art breathes vibrancy into our lives and splays color on our bare walls. The artist, the visionary, the creator; all thankless and overlooked jobs. Though we walk through a life filled with art, often it goes without a second thought. As we approach the holiday season we give thanks for many things: family, friends and life’s little successes. While all are celebratory causes, we should also take pause to give thanks for the arts. The beauty which surrounds us in Seaside is largely thanks to visionaries, artists and creators. Without those dedicated creative minds, what would Seaside be but another town on the map? This is something special.

Nurturing that creativity has born a new era of creatives who walk this town for inspiration. Their involvement in the innerworkings of Seaside’s art scene solidifies the culture-rich legacy established upon its inception. Whether you are a visitor, a homeowner, or just stopping by on a Sunday drive, Seaside’s bountiful visual and performing arts scenes offer the opportunity for cultural enrichment at every moment.

This vision supports The Seaside Repertory Theatre’s (The REP) performing arts programs and educational outreach. Entering its 17th season, The REP is Northwest Florida’s premiere professional theater and a hidden gem in the heart of Seaside. For the upcoming fall and winter season, The REP offers a variety of programming including breakthrough singer-songwriters for the Live@TheREP Concert Series, including new music from handpicked artists.

The REP is ecstatic about the return of veteran REP actor Kevin Boyle, who has performed comedy and improv on The REP stage since its early days in the one-man show “Fully Committed.” The show follows a day in the life of Sam Peliczowski, an out-of-work actor who mans the red-hot reservation line at Manhattan’s number-one restaurant. Coercion, threats, bribes, histrionics — a cast of desperate callers will stop at nothing in their zeal to land a prime reservation, or the right table. “Fully Committed” has 40 wildly diverse characters all played by Boyle, and the show is directed by REP Executive Director Brook Stetler. “Fully Committed” runs Nov. 30 through Dec. 9 on select days. (See calendar on page 16.)

Back for its eighth season, “Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and Then Some!)” returns with refreshed jokes. This hilarious whirlwind of a performance tackles all your favorite Christmas stories while bringing in all the special holiday traditions you share with your family: watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, caroling, and re-gifting that fruit cake … again. The delightful cast keeps the energy high and the audience laughing as they take on every beloved holiday classic. Consistent audience participation brings the entire family in on the fun. Who doesn’t want to see dad play a convincing Cindy Lou-Who? This crowd-pleasing holiday tradition provides the laughs, but never strays from the heart of the holiday season. The show is family friendly and loved by all ages! “Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and Then Some!)” hits the stage in late November and runs through the end of December.
