30A.com’s famous four-wheel-drive mascot, an ex-British military Land Rover 90 named Truman, was recently featured in Land Rover Monthly, published in the UK. The photo spread, shot in Point Washington State Forest, marks the significance of the vehicle, as 2015 is the last year the Land Rover Defender series will be made. “The first was made in 1948,” says Mike Ragsdale, president of 30A.com. “That makes it pretty timely since it’s one of the longest running vehicles of all time. It’s an iconic vehicle because the design hasn’t changed much.” As for the name Truman, 30A’s Facebook fans (now more than 360,000 strong) voted on the name. “The neat thing is, the name works on two levels,” Ragsdale says. “’The Truman Show,’ (the feature film made in Seaside) of course. But it’s also kind of cool that Harry S. Truman was president when the first Land Rover rolled off the assembly line in 1948.”
